Linda Duxbury
The recipient of the Spring 2007 Toastmasters International District 61 Communication and Leadership Award is both a strong leader and a highly effective communicator.
Linda Duxbury is a Professor at the School of Business, Carleton University. She received a B.A.Sc. and M.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Management Sciences from the University of Waterloo. Dr. Duxbury is one of Canada's leading workplace health researchers. She has influenced government policy-making and significantly advanced the practices and attitudes toward work-life balance, flexible work arrangements, and the development of supportive managers and work environments in Canada. Dr. Duxbury has published widely in both the academic and practitioner literatures in the area of work-family conflict, supportive work environments, stress, telework, and supportive management. Always an enlightening and popular speaker, Dr. Duxbury’s ideas and research are highly valued by major corporations and government agencies. She has written hundreds of papers, journals, and books and is a much sought after guest on radio and television.
Dr. Duxbury held the Imperial Life Chair in Women and Management from 1992 to 1996 and is current Director of the Carleton Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work. She sits on Carleton University Board of Governors, and is an elected member of both the senate and senate executive of Carleton University.
Dr. Duxbury will be presented with our District’s Communication and Leadership Award during our conference at a luncheon on April 28 held in her honour.
