Pierre Allard, former Assistant Commissioner, Community Engagement, for the Correctional Service of Canada, retired in 2006 and is now President of Just.Equipping, a charitable organization committed to promoting Restorative Justice and to equipping Prison chaplains worldwide.
Pierre obtained various degrees from colleges and universities in Canada and the United States. In 1986, he obtained his Doctorate. In 1996 and 1998 respectively, he was granted honorary doctorates of divinity from McMaster and Queen’s Universities.
Throughout his 34 year career, Pierre has been the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of his work in the community and in the field of corrections. Of note, in 1998, he received the first Head of the Public Service Award and, at the Canadian Criminal Justice Association (CCJA) congress in Halifax, June 2001, he received both the Achievement Award and the Good Samaritan Award. The Governor General presented the Reverend Allard with the Meritorious Service Medal (M.S.M.) in September 2002. Pierre received the Maud Booth Award in Chicago in August 2004 and the Service Commendation on Parliament Hill in December 2004. In 2005, he received ‘The Best in the Business Award’ from the American Correctional Association (ACA). In 2006, the Government of Canada created the ‘Pierre Allard Award’ given yearly to a reformed offender who is now contributing positively to society. In 2007, he received ‘The Mitchell Sharp Award’ for service to the community by a retiree and in December 2009, he received the Award of Merit from the Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution (CICR), St Paul University.
In recognition of his excellent communication skills and service leadership locally, nationally and internationally, District 61 is honored to award the Communication & Leadership Award 2010 to Reverend Dr. Pierre Allard.
