Harness Your Leadership Skills!

Canada - 1:30-2:15PM

Toastmasters is the perfect laboratory for learning leadership skills. Every meeting presents growth opportunities through leadership roles, but few people take advantage of them. Why? We think it is because people are unclear about the tasks involved in some of the key roles, such as that of Toastmaster, General Evaluator, Timer and Grammarian. Let us show you how to get the maximum impact from these important roles and learn leadership skills that transfer to the real world outside Toastmasters.

Women Communicate Differently. Get Over It!

Le Club - 10:15-11:00AM

Are you ready to explore, examine, celebrate and, ultimately embrace the fact that, yes, women do communicate differently and that’s OK!

Although huge strides have been made in the workplace in the last decade, there is still an unfortunate perception "that women still have to be twice as smart as their male counterparts, have worked ten times harder and waited many years longer to get to the executive position" (Marie J. Toulantis CEO of Barnes and Noble (2001). Is this still true or are we getting closer to the point of people being known as the best in their field – period, amen, not man or woman? Join Teri Kingston, Cori Slaughter (Staff Sergeant, Ottawa Police Services), Carol Beamish (Civilian RCMP), Heidi Liu (wife of Police Chief Kai Liu) and Angela Sutcliffe (Business Consultant) as they explore the barriers to communication that women still face in the workplace and in other leadership roles.

This panel discussion will take place in two back-to-back sessions. In Part I, we will examine what is happening with women in the workplace based on the unique experiences of these five amazing women. In Part II, we will explore how to "break the shackles" of stereotypes and be part of the conversation (whether male or female!) to create a cultural change that celebrates our differences.
