The Principles of War … and Toastmasters!

Chris Ford, DTM, PDG, PID, PIP

If you’ve ever been stuck trying to figure out how to approach a problem or a challenge, you probably didn’t look at it from a military perspective. Time to look again – at a set of principles that enable the success of any military endeavour, and which will enable your success as a Toastmaster … and beyond. Presented by a retired General and Past International President, this workshop will open your eyes to a unique way of responding to that common question: “OK, how can I do this?”

Is it a snapshot or a photograph?

Frank Schilder,

It has long been said a picture is worth 1000 words. Do you take photos for your club website or Facebook page or even just for your personal use? Are you taking a snapshot or a photograph?

Frank Schilder has enjoyed photography all his life and recently has even completed a certificate program in digital photography at Algonquin College. Frank is well known within the district for his photographs over many years at events and conferences including studio-quality portraits.

In this workshop Frank outlines some basics about photography that will help you distinguish the difference between snapshots and photographs to improve the impact made by your photos. Through some basic concepts like lighting and composition, you will learn the difference between a snapshot and a photograph.

Empower your Members and Make Leaders

Oren Weintraub

Ever wonder, “How come no one’s running for next year’s executive?” “Why is no one stepping up to chair the contest?” Every year, clubs diminish because the next generation doesn’t “pick up the torch.” In this workshop, you will come away with a system you can start using immediately to empower and inspire people to step up to leadership!

Following completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

– Inspire members to say “Yes” to leadership opportunities

– Build member self-confidence through one-on-one interaction

– Prepare inexperienced members for future executive roles

10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. / 10 h 15 – 11 h45
